The answer is a resounding, YES!
Regardless of your businesses size, you should strongly consider having a Request for Proposal (RFP – usually used for gov’t quotes) or a Request for Quote (RFQ – more common for businesses and non-profits or not-for-profit organizations) written when you are shopping for IT services of any kind. By spelling out exactly what you want to your potential providers, you will be able to compare the responses you receive more easily. Otherwise, when you verbally ask for services you may neglect to mention something critical or they may interject an idea or thought that will cause their proposal to be completely different.
By spending the time to figure out exactly what your company or organization needs and writing it down you will be able to get comparable solutions.
